Causes out of our control
Heredity - A narrow throat, short neck or other physical attributes that might cause vibrations in the airway.
Being middle-aged or beyond - As you age, your throat becomes narrower, and the muscle tone in your throat decreases.
Being male - Men have narrower air passages than women and are more likely to snore. However, this changes after women hit menopause
Allergies or a cold - Blocked airways make breathing through the nose impossible, hence leading to mouth breathing. Mouth breathing increases chances of snoring.

Alcohol or medications - Alcohol and medications increase muscle relaxation leading to more snoring. Consume alcohol at least 4 hours before going to bed.
Sleeping posture - Sleeping flat on your back allows the flesh of your throat to relax and block the airway. Ensure that you have adequate support from your pillow.
