Dvla Number Plates Helps Darling

The DVLA have been keen to sell off the family silver this year in a bid to raise funds for the exchequer. Their efforts include the normal DVLA auction programme throughout the year, a new sale by tender & the much awaited release of the F prefix registration numbers in October 2008.

This week has been a fantastic result for Mr Darling with the auction of DVLA number plates at Wallingford, Northamptonshire. There were over 1600 lots included in the sale with some very exclusive private number plates available.

Yesterday saw some of the best registrations in the sale change hands the two highlights of the day have to be 1 HRH selling to a Buckinghamshire based businessman who didn’t want to be named but was determined to keep the registration number in British ownership. The other private number plate that had big expectations was 1 O with many forecasts expecting the DVLA to scoop over a quarter of a million pounds. The number was actually sold to a private buyer for £210,242 far outstripping it’s £10,000 reserve price.

Today has seen another high value sale with 3 S smashing it’s £8,000 reserve price reaching £76,000 when the auctioneers gavel fell at the same auction.
