I want to own a coffee shop - what are some basics?

So you want to own a coffee shop? Perhaps you are thinking about setting up one as a business proposition - they are doing well despite the recssion, or you just have a real passion for coffee.

Here are some key things to bear in mind when considering a start up or business plan.

1) Don't be scared of the big chains. Of course they are successful, but they also create a market for the gourmet coffee experience. In fact without them, would you be into coffee or want to own a coffee shop? They have helped create a market that you can take advantage of.

2) The location is the single biggest defining factor in your shop's success. If you plan to own a coffee shop it simply has to be where people congregate, or an area where dozens pass through. Here's one simple idea. When people are heading into work in the morning, what side of the road are they on? Thinking like that can help you determine a good coffee house location.

3) Personalise your service whenever you can. You are not one of the big chains. One of the reasons people will like that is because you can be small enough to know them. Chat with your customers and let them know how important they are.

4) Feeling hot hot hot - and not just the coffee. if in doubt, make the temperature in your coffee house slightly higher than lower. It encourages people to take off their coats, sit down and stay. It might just encourage them to buy that extra product from you and you also want your shop to look busy, while of course still having room for people to breathe.

If you plan to own a coffee shop these four tips will give you a better chance of success. Good luck!

If you want to cut your start up costs and own a coffee shop then these coffee shop secrets will be a big help.
