Small Business and Liquidation Purchases

As a small business you are always looking for ways to spend less on the items you sell and get a better profit, especially in these down economic times. If you have been looking at your options, you may have noticed there are a lot of liquidation deals out there. These are lots of items that are up for purchase at a fraction of what they are worth.

The only problem is that many liquidation lots are large, very large. Most are pallets of boxes of merchandise that is to be sold in one bunch. While you like the idea of a great deal, these may be a little too much money for you to put on the line for even a great deal.

Another common problem with liquidation lots is that they may have too many of one item for your uses. While 30 or 50 of something may not be a problem, you probably don't need 500 of the same item. That's too much of your resources tied up in one piece of inventory.

But there are options. Here's a look at some of the ways to be able to enjoy liquidation prices without having to take on such big lots.

Get To Know Liquidation Companies

Many liquidation companies have two portions of their business. One side has the massive lots of items that are just a little too much for you. But they may also have another side of the business where they offer smaller amounts of the same items for smaller businesses to purchase.

Many people these days use a liquidation broker to find the best source for their goods. This is a company, often a website, where they explain what they want and are linked up with liquidation specialists that will best serve those needs. Often you can mention you want smaller lots in the application.

Cut the Cost in Half

If you know of another company that sells similar things to your, you may want to go in together to make a purchase of a liquidation lot. You could both pay half of the price and then come up with a way to fairly split the goods once they arrive.

EBay

A final great way to get into the liquidation market is by using eBay. As a buyer on eBay you can do a search for liquidation lots and you may be able to find a number of lots that others are offering after breaking down their big liquidation purchases. The other option is to be a seller on eBay and sell some of the inventory from a liquidation lot you purchase to immediately get some of your money back and lessen your inventory.
