Your market must know your tagline. Sometimes small business owners fail to appreciate the value of this simple phrase. You need to develop a powerful tagline and make the market aware of it. Creating a powerful tagline is a great strategy to grow your small business.
First of all, allow me to explain what a tagline is. The tagline for your small business is a simple sentence that, with marketing creativity, communicates’s the value of your small business. It should be easy to remember, quick, powerful, and consistent with the vision of your small business.
I have a great example from a Job Corps event some time ago. This organization provides professional enrichment, personal development and career and vocational educational programs for youth. I was helping a young man create some marketing for his sweatshirt business.
We were in front of the crowd of 50 people and this proud, future, business tycoon was explaining his unique product line of sweatshirts. He explained for about five minutes and it was obvious that the group of people were confused. We changed his pitch and reduced this five minute product line explanation to one simple phrase. This simple phrase became his tagline. “I sell the most comfortable sweatshirt, you will ever wear.” When this 19-year-old shared this tagline, the crowd exploded with applause and several people were ready to buy.
Take this idea and use it in your small business. People are already overloaded with information and marketing messages. Give them something quick, unique and powerful to remember about your company. If it is complex, confusing, or too long, you will confuse your market and they will forget you. To make sales and grow your small business, you must first be remembered. Because people could relate to and almost feel a comfortable sweatshirt, the previous tagline is a powerful one. People can remember it.
Create a powerful tagline for your small business. Having a powerful tagline is a great strategy to grow your small business.
