Your product can be used many different ways. Small business leaders are excited, engaged and often emotionally invested in the success of their business. You create a product or service for a specific use. Understanding and appreciating that there might be other uses, can create new markets and new opportunities. Finding new uses for your products is a great strategy to grow your small business.
Let me give you an example from my motivational speaking business. My Aspirations program is a self-empowerment system that helps people identify, implement and achieve what they want in life. Some time ago I was positioning this as a program for college students. I felt that this was a good fit since college students often need more direction and guidance in their lives.
In doing some professional networking in the area of educational administration, I discovered a new use for my product. The principles of the program are very important to high school students as well. For example, graduating seniors are confused and pressured about their decisions. Work or college? What major? What do I want to do with my life? I learned that high schools were another strong market for my program.
You need to do the same investigation for your products. How can you reposition your product just a bit to enter new markets? For example, if you sell vitamins and minerals to health food stores, can you reposition them slightly and sell them to sports supplement stores? The core advantages of your product remain the same. Find new uses for your product to grow your market and revenue.
Finding new uses for your products is a great way to grow your small business.
Could you use more tips like this to accelerate the growth of your small business? Achievement thinking is a powerful concept that Mark Mikelat, the founder of Building Aspirations, www.BuildingAspirations.com, uses to coach his small business clients to double or even triple the size of their businesses.
