Small Business Management Made Easy

Running a small business is extremely different from having a job, and small business management is even harder. When you have a job you have external forces that keep you in line and doing what you have to do to achieve goals that will make the company successful.

When you run a business, you don’t have external forces that keep you in check. You have to find ways to manage your small business effectively without having a supervisor or a manager standing over your shoulder reminding you every five seconds of what you need to do to stay on task. Here are some tips to help you manage your small business.

The first thing you need to do to help you manage your business is to get help. Seek out a competent virtual assistant right away. A virtual assistant can help you organize your time properly. A virtual assistant can also help you stay organized with friendly reminders of what needs to get done and when.

You should also enlist the help of a graphics designer and a web designer if you don’t have skills in this arena. It’s important for you to have people that can do the tasks that you are not well-versed in, so you can focus on your core competencies.

After you get your team of experts in place, you need some advisors. You should get a mentor or a coach to help you manage your business. A coach or a mentor can help you see things in a way that you didn’t see them before because they’re looking at your problem from the outside in. A coach or a mentor can be objective and tell you what you need to hear about your business.

It’s important to have people in your corner that can tell you like it is when it comes to your business. You need that no nonsense advice so that you can make the necessary changes in your business to have a world-class operation.

Once you have your team of experts and advisors in place, get an accountability partner. Ideally this should be someone else who is running their own business since they truly understand what you’re going through. Agree on a certain day and time to meet and discuss your goals and your progress. This will help you stay on track because you’ll know that person is going to expect you to have made some progress on your goals.

It is very easy to get distracted when you start a small business, especially if your home and office are the same place. When you get a mentor, coach and an accountability partner, you’ll have the tools for small business management in place to keep yourself on track with your goals.
