From Staleys To Bears

The Bears began life in 1919 as the Dacateur Staleys, a company team based in Illinois. They joined the NFL in 1920 and were shifted to Chicago in 1921 and officially changed their name to the Bears the following year. Right from the beginning, the Bears seemed to dominate the football field and Chicago Bears tickets became a prized commodity. They were steady winners, pulling in their only losing season in 1929.

The Bears also became famous for spearheading a new rule in the NFL that a player could not be signed until his senior class had graduated. The Bears continued to play consistently well and are remembered for the trouncing victory they had over the Washington Redskins in 1940. Not only were the Redskins favored to win, the game went down in history for its 73-0 score.

The Shuffling Crew

Chicago Bears tickets remained a popular commodity, not just for their performances on the field but also off the field. In 1983, Virginia McCaskey took over the Bears after her father's death. She has been referred to as the First Lady of Sports due to the impact she has had on the team.

In 1985, prior to the Bears' entry to the Super Bowl, a few of the team members called The Shuffling Crew, released a rap song called the Super Bowl Shuffle. Not only did it land a slot on the Billboard Countdown, it was also nominated for a Grammy, making the Bears the first sports team to get such an honor. Proceeds from record sales were given to charity and the song proved to be so popular that it was covered later in 2007 by a Chicago Bears fan group. The Bears have made an impact in other aspects of popular culture as well. Not only have a number of players appeared in commercials, they have also appeared in SNL skits.

Today, the Bears are the current National Football Conference champions and are strong contenders for big Super Bowl wins in the future.
