Real Madrid Falls and Barcelona Climbs Higher

The triumphs and success of the great Spanish champion Real Madrid, seems to be left behind. The job the Merengues (Meringues) is being dulled by the big amount of injuries affecting their players (most of the most important ones) and the team, as much in the international competitions as in the Spanish League (la Liga). This instability on the Real Madrid was seen once more at their last encounter, on which confronted Getafe and ended up on summing a third defeat to their 2008/09 Primera División season losses record.

On this game, Getafe won with a high score of 3-1, Real Madrid couldn’t held the control making evident its weaknesses, from what Getafe (a club with less experience than the Whites) used to take advantage. Getafe directed by Víctor Muñoz utilized a strategy that allowed them to keep on with a great attitude and brought favorable situations for the Azulones (Dark Blues). Despite that Meringues are going through bad times, Getafe had no mercy for its rival, whose main objective is defending to avoid a losing.

This victory from Getafe joins the draw from their last game against Barça to start what it seems to be a good streak, on which the results and the good performance in team show up. Meanwhile on the other side of the coin, this rout makes the Real descend to the fourth position on the general table, with a difference of 6 points behind Barcelona, the leader of the Liga. These negative aspects affecting the Whites, puts them in an unfavorable situation before Sevilla, Barcelona, Valencia and Villarreal, who are their major rivals and who must beat up on their next 4 matches.

On the other hand, Barcelona showed again their power, this time by thumping Sevilla 3-0. On that clash Barça had the opportunity to stand out thanks to the excellent performances of the goal makers Samuel Eto’o and Lionel Messi, who were in charge of controlling the game with the help of Thierry Henry, avoiding the attacks by a Sevilla that looked strong and stable on its plays.

As the match passed by, Sevilla’s presence decreased more and more, due to the hard assault that the red-and-blues imposed, Sevilla practically surrendered in few minutes and played with less intensity than in the first half. The Red-Whites had great opportunities move on to the opponent’s box, but the Culés’ defense knew how to stop them, acting ahead their treacherous moves.

This was a clear strike for Sevilla, who got a big punishment and a lesson on how to play football. Barcelona showed its rivals how they accomplish a game of high quality, playing with competence and a sturdy offense and defense, features that makes them capable of holding its rivals attacks. It is clear that Barça possess the same ability and talent to play at home and out of it. These spectacular victories, places Barcelona FC even higher on the top position of the Spanish First Division, with a total of 32 points, follow by Villarreal with 28, Valencia on the third spot with 27 and the defeated Meringues with 26pts on fourth.
