Rubén De La Red Might Never Play for Spain And Real Madrid Again

Reports are coming out of Madrid that promising 24-year old Spanish midfielder Rubén de la Red will still be with the capital's soccer club next year but he will not be playing in any games.

Last October he was admitted to hospital when he collapsed during a match of Copa Del Rey against Real Unión and was later initially diagnosed with effort syncope and did not play another game during the remainder of the season.

Unfortunately for him, all further medical tests have failed to provide anything conclusive or substantial on his actual illness so he will miss the next season as well while tests will be carried out every two months to definitively assess his health.

Whether he will ever play again for Real Madrid and Spanish national team is also in serious doubt as both teams will be wary of that decision, in particular, because of what happened to Antonio Puerta of Sevilla when he fell to the ground because of a cardiac arrest while playing a La Liga game against Getafe on 25 August 2007 and died three days later.

Rubén de la Red is a homegrown talent that came up the ranks of Real Madrid youth system and worked his way into the senior team of the famous Spanish soccer club.

The word buzzing around is that he met with club's General Managerr Jorge Valdano and may take up a coaching job with one of the Real Madrid junior teams as he has completed many coaching programs.

The midfielder sat down for an interview with Publico and talked about his role as the team's central midfielder. You were signed to organise a team formed by Cristiano, Kaka, Benzema, Lass, Raul… How will you do it? One player on his own can’t do it; it’s up to the whole team to organise itself and have a collective awareness. We’re still in the preseason and adapting to the coach’s ideas.
