The 31 times champion of La Liga, Real Madrid, won in an incredible way against Malaga in day 10 of the season, with a magical score of 4-3. The “Merengues” as they are also known, played with 10 players during the entire second half since Sergio Ramos was dismissed with a red card at minute 44.
This was Real Madrid fifth red card of the season; even though, this is something that hasn’t affected the team so far because they have won five games in similar situations. Moreover, in the games where the “Merengues” have been with 10 or 9 players, the team has managed to score in eight different occasions and had obtained the victory consistently.
During last Saturday’s game, things were equally managed by the two teams. Nevertheless, at minute 6 Eliseu opened the score for Malaga. But just a couple of minutes later the hero of Real Madrid Gonzalo Higuaín, scored for the “Whites”. Shortly after, during minute 18’ a great play from Baha put the match 2-1 in favor of Malaga and just finalizing the first half of the game a cut out of Welington of Higuaín’s pass touched his arm, Hinguaíns then scored with a penalty to tie the game 2-2 before the halftime.
On the second half, things seemed scary for Real Madrid, due to the fact that they were playing with 10 players after the red card of Ramos. Malaga then made the most of it and with an error of Gago kicking Duda’s foot in the area, Malaga scored their third goal in a penalty. However, Higuaín came once again to the rescue just one minute later and scored for the “Merengues” once more equalizing the game for third time.
Finally at just twelve minutes to go, Iturralde awarded a third penalty after Higuaín fell. Higuaín then kick the penalty that Arnau saved; however, Malaga’s rejection play didn’t work and Higuaín took advantage of it placing his fourth goal anyway and at the end, the final score went in favor of Real Madrid 4 goals to 3.
As every fan watched the game could see, this match was a battling one for Real Madrid from the beginning through the end. And despite of being behind three times, the “Merengues” never gave up and maintained their fighting spirit to obtain the victory. The contributions of the four goals of Gonzalo Higuaín were essential, and his performance was exquisite, without a doubt. Coach Schuster was really pleased with Higuaín and his entire players’ attitude toward adversity.
"It is great mentally for the team to win games such as this, although of course I would prefer easier victories. Also it clear the Higuaín played his role very well, just like he did in previous games. He is taking advantage of his pace and touch. I am happy with his performance,” expressed the manager of Real Madrid Bernd Schuster.
Currently Real Madrid is in fourth position of La Liga behind Valencia, with 23 points and 16 goals against. The next match of the “Merengues” will be vs. Real Unión on November 11th at the Copa del Rey. While in the Spanish League, Real Madrid will face Valladolid on November 16th at the Stadium of José Zorrilla in Valladolid. We hope the best for Real Madrid this week and we look forward to see some of his injured players coming back for next matches.
