Special Bets August 2009

A look at some of the special bets available from the Bookies for the forthcoming 2009/10 season. Odds in fractions are followed by decimal odds which are in brackets and are taken at the time of writing.

Sky Bet are taking bets on Antonio Valencia's Man Utd debut at Old Trafford against Birmingham on the 16th August.

Valencia is 33/1 (34) to get sent off, 12/1 (13) to hit the woodwork, 10/1 (11) to get a yellow card, 7/2 (4.5) to get substituted, 11/4 (3.75) to score a goal and EVENS (2) to last the whole game. It might be worth having a dutch on some of those!

Fancy a punt on Arsenal's first defeat of the season? Well, you can! Firstly Sky Bet are offering 7/1 (8) for the Gunners to be undefeated in the first ten league games. I can't see it myself so I'll advise you to move on. Arsenal play Everton away first of all which won't be easy. The odds are 15/8 (2.88) for them to lose this one. Next up are Portsmouth at home at 11/1 (12).  Arsenal then travel to the holders Man Utd 15/8 (2.88). Personally I think this is when they'll come unstuck and it's the most sensible bet offered. Man City (a), Wigan (h), Fulham (a), Blackburn (h), Birmingham (h) West Ham (a) are the Gunners following fixtures.

The 8th of August is the date of Newcastle's first match of the season when they travel to the Midlands to face fellow relegation outfit, West Brom. Sky Bet are offering odds of 11/10 (2.10) for Alan Shearer to be manager on this day when the first ball is kicked for the Toon. Chris Hughton is 6/4 (2.50) then comes former Chelsea gaffer, Gianluca Vialli and Cardiff boss, Dave Jones, both at 7/1 (8). Joe Kinnear who had a brief spell at St James' Park before being taken ill last season is at 10/1 (11). Former Charlton and West Ham boss, Alan Curbishley who has been out of work for awhile is quoted at 14/1 (15), Steve McClaren 16/1 (17) and Ian Dowie 20/1 (21). The rest are outsiders but do include former managers, Kenny Dalglish 25/1 (26) and Kevin Keegan 100/1 (101).

The Franck Ribery saga is still ongoing. Which club will he be with after the summer transfer window? Both Sky Bet and Paddy Power are offering odds on this market. Both have Ribery's current club, Bayern Munich as favourites at 8/13 (1.62). Big spending Real Madrid are 9/4 (3.25) with Paddy Power and 5/2 (3.5) with Sky Bet. Barcelona, Chelsea and Liverpool are between the odds of 8/1 and 10/1 then come both Manchester clubs who are priced at 25/1 with Sky Bet. Inter Milan, AC Milan and Arsenal are rank outsiders to clinch the signature of the skilful Frenchman with prices ranging from 50/1 to 66/1.
