Microsoft Dynamics GP, formerly known as Great Plains Dynamics and eEnterprise, has good selection of native modules: SOP, POP, Inventory Control, Purchase Configurator, plus you could find various Add-ons or custom modules, supported by Dynamics GP ISV partners. This publication is review for technical specialist and it is intended to give you technology highlight and how to automate SCM in your organization:
1. Supply Chain Management requirements for mid-size business. They are often not very challenging and there is no reason to implement high end Supply Chain Management module or product. What you often see in mid-size and smaller organization is good barcoding scanners with barcode server (optional), where information is captured in the warehouse from packing slips or Sales Orders. Plus, often inventory count is done by barcode scanners in the batch mode. You may optionally need Purchasing and Inventory Replenishment automation, which could be based on native GP Purchase Configurator extension to POP. If you are in franchise or dealership network, you may have simple EDI (Electronic Document Interchange) channel (where EDI specification are in your Franchisor hands). You may also have several Warehouses and the need to move merchandise from one site to another, preferably with Barcode scanners automaton
2. Midsize SCM extensions might seem too simple and at the same time too unique and in order to implement the logic, you often find yourself in customization direction. This is normal, you are not the first and you are not the last – high end SCM module might cost you hundred thousand in software licenses and plus you will be required to pay annual enhancement and support fee to Great Plains ISV. Customization might be more cost efficient and it may give you more control over your future: source codes, balancing on in-house and ISV support proportions, etc.
3. Next steps in selecting Dynamics GP SCM partner. Each Dynamics GP Partner has specializations and does something better than the others. Also, you should consider the advantages of deploying local Great Plains VAR or search for the best expertise USA Nationwide. In the case of Supply Chain Management, Dynamics GP partner in our opinion should have reasonable knowledge in the SCM itself, including Barcoding, Inventory Tags printing, purchasing and inventory control modules customization, consignment, Dynamics GP industry reporting: Packing List, Picking Ticket, BOL. Customization also requires GP partner to have Microsoft Dexterity, eConnect, C#, SQL Stored Procedures programmers in staff
4. Supply Chain Management automation is not an easy step, so take your time in preparation. Feel free to call us: 1-866-528-0577, help@albaspectrum.com
