Optimation Nesting Solution Optipunch Perfect for Fabricators Using Punches

For 30 years Optimation® has been the world leader in Part Nesting for Optimized Material and Labor utilization. Consistently providing product advancement leadership to industry, the company’s new Nesting Technology, AxiomVE make previous nesting methods obsolete.   The new technology, Vision Emulation™, allows the system to “see” the shape of parts, just as human eyes would view them.  When a person looks at a part, they see the whole shape and any special features on the part.  This information is then used to determine if the part will fit in an area of the nest.  Vision Emulation eliminates excessive trial and error as well as excessive rotation.

“Powerful automated nesting and NC Programming software packages are rarely available to fabricators using punches only (nesting and blank-to-size single part), punches in combination with out process (plasma, laser, shear or rout), or FMS cells with auto loading, unloading, and sorting mechanisms,” according to Michael D. Lundy, P.E., President & CEO of Optimation.

Optimation's OptiPunch is a powerful software solution which is able to manage and manipulate a broad range of Tool Definition, Tool Station and Tool Changer parameters to create your most effective nesting pattern, quickly and efficiently.  CAD drawings along with pertinent pre-programmed inputs and manufacturing attributes are imported into Optimation software and OptiPunch is compatible with a wider range of CAD formats than any other nesting software.

In a Punch-only application, the software solution, OptiPunch automatically selects preferred tool set as well as provides specific part tooling based on tool types of radius, tabbing, cluster, slitter, and single hit. It also calculates tabbing tool placement automatically as well automatically punches out irregular shaped holes and notches. Lundy commented that the OptiPunch solution, “Can tool parts using material dependent scallop control and will match tool tolerances to individual over and undersize single hits. It recognizes die clearance limitations as defined by the user per material type and automatically warns the user of geometric areas with no applicable tooling.”

Other benefits to fabricators using OptiPunch include the ability to:

…Recognize and automatically match cluster punches to geometry.

…Apply rotational tooling such as rectangular or square shapes to linear and arc type geometry.

…Utilize corner radius tools automatically if desired.

…Apply lead-in starter punches if applicable per material type.

….Automatically recognize whether a tooled part should be grain constrained due to tooling limitations per machine.

…Automatically assign tools without assigning specific stations until time of nest creation for maximum flexibility.

…Provide a full-featured set of tools for interaction if desired.

…Configure in a "blank-to-size" single part program mode for handling non-nest type parts (calculates clamp positions automatically).

…Calculate micro-tab and micro-joint placement based upon tool path size if applicable.

Optimation (www.optimation.com) offers benchmarking against any other method of part nesting; recent benchmarks have show improvements up to 15% in material efficiency alone.  As lean efficiencies are essential, the most advanced nesting technology guarantees the most important parts are always nested in the next available machine, providing advanced information to integrated costing, labor reporting, and material inventory systems. Because Optimation is strong financially and has the most advanced technology; the company offers direct financing from its own capital resources.
