It accomplishes this by comparing the checksums of the images. An identity of the checksum of two images would point to the identity of the photos. MD5 is the default checksum in use but, at the option of the user, this can be changed to CRC32, Exif, creation date, file name, or photo dimension data. Upon the detection of duplicates, Duplicate Annihilator can be enabled to immediately consign them to the trash, and even empty it getting rid of all your duplicate photos forever.   If you are a little bit more cautious, you can simply have the application post an additional comment or a keyword on the description fields of the duplicate photos.
