Submitting Sdlt Online Forms Using Case Management Software

Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) Growing with Success

Submitting your SDLT form using case management software is only possible using approved legal software. Most providers of case management and conveyancing software have worked with the government protocol to meet the high standards set for inclusion as an authorised electronic submission provider.

This type of SDLT form data entry makes the submission of these forms a quick and easy process. The beauty of systems like this is the data that is already in the case does not have to be rekeyed into the SDLT form saving the user a huge amount of time.

In May 2007 DPS case management was one of a selected few to be a 3rd party member of the government scheme and began using the electronic version of these forms through software called OneOffice.

Since the systems have been running the success rate has grown as users submit more and more forms directly from case management software.

The electronic submission of the SDLT form can be done by only approved users as clearly once submitted the firm is liable for all costs in regard to the submission.

Before the government online electronic submission was introduced the process could take between 5 to 10 working days providing the form was filled in correctly. With the forms now being electronic and being submitted directly from One Office it has slashed the turn around time. Now an instant response is received when an online submission is made and any errors are flagged straight away.

The case management log is updated and tracks both the submission and the response.

Using the Stamp Taxes Online service makes good business sense and allows submission of your land transaction return over the internet and benefiting from receipt of your electronic SDLT 5 certificate within moments of successful submission. The electronic version of the paper SDLT 5 can be printed off and sent to the appropriate register for registration.

The 5 reasons why you should file online:

1.Electronic SDLT 5

2.The electronic SDLT 5 certificate is delivered online, usually within moments of successful submission. This means you won't have to wait for postal SDLT5’s or chase up certificates from HMRC.No SDLT 8 Online filing means that you will not receive an SDLT 8 letter asking for more information. The validation built into DPS One Office means you can't submit the form unless all the required questions have been answered.

3.Fast and Efficient Online is the fastest method of completion. Because much of the data will already have been entered into the case it does not have to be re-entered.

4.Immediate Submission Once the form is completed successfully online, you click the ‘submit’ button and it is filed online with the whole operation being tracked on the DPS One Office case file.

5.Saves time and money Online filing can also save your business time and money in other ways:

• Penalties for late submission can be reduced. Forms can be prepared pre-completion and submitted straight after completion has taken place. Payment of tax due can follow on-line submission.

• You don't need to keep large stocks of up-to-date paper forms and, if using the automatic UTRN generation facility, you won't need to use separate paying-in slips.

• You won't need to telephone the Helpline or refer to SDLT 6 guidance notes; interactive help is available on fields, with drop down menus for various codes.

SDLT forms have proven to be being a great success with more and more people having a higher success rate by submitting online through DPS One Office. The percentage of forms being submitted this way has grown by 75% since May 2007.
