Attention! Another Internet Fraud

protect your PC

You surf Internet and suddenly your attention's attracted by the link "Test your PC for hackers attacks vulnerability" or "Is your PC safe?", or anything alike.

You enter the site which offers to push the button to immediately see: your IP address (a unique number of your machine), which net do you use, which city do you live, who's your internet provider , your browser version, which ports are open, perhaps which OS is installed.

All these tricks are ridiculous for network professionals as such information is absolutely not a secret. The data you see is the result of the standard requests to various net services like, for example WHOIS, a wide-used protocol aimed to find information about networks. However, the site is not designed for the experts, and the most ingenuous users are already shocked.

For those who haven't still been impressed the authors prepared another pass: "This window will display the list of files stored in your hard disk". Impossible! The user clicks and indeed (!) to his unspeakable horror sees his files. Actually the launched script just shows to the PC owner his own files LOCALLY, but it looks like they are on the web-page, and the poor user gives up.

The most impressive special effect is arranged for the most careless users. If the printer is open to access (sometimes it happens), it will print: "Greetings from hackers!" The user feels helpless. You would say so what, just a harmless joke, where's the profit? Here you are: "Download right now this safety software at just 49.99 bucks" The result is known. It may be even some antivirus for a change. However, most probably it will be a Trojan.

Forewarned, forearmed
