Dangerous Facebook Spam spreads around the world at this very moment

Dangerous Facebook Spam spreads around the world at this very moment.

Hackers of stolen Facebook accounts spread a dangerous virus spam at the moment. Security firms and experts strongly believe Russian internet hackers are behind this attack now.

Cyber criminals that stole user names and passwords from Facebook earlier this year and late last year are now using these accounts to send out spam. This new development to utilize Facebook to spread malicious software indicates how cyber crime comes in waves and does not end with the initial attack.

The stolen user accounts and passwords are misused to send email with malicious content to their friend’s accounts. Some of the spam sent out through this only asks for you to buy certain male enhancement products and such things, while others are more malicious than that. Some mails direct you to advertisements software sites that installs malicious software on your computer without you knowing it at all.

This stream of spam mail began on May 7th and Facebook began to block some accounts where this behavior started. Facebook deletes the spam and reset passwords to those accounts with suspicious behavior.

One of the web pages used for redirecting in one of the spam mails are loaded with attack codes and is used to install malicious software. These pages are hosted on a Lithuanian server that is associated with other cyber crime activities. The attacks are assumed by security experts to be linked to cyber criminals that are well known to the internet security experts around the world. One of the organizations thought to be implicated into this is RBN, or Russian Business Network.

The methods used to trick Facebook users to give up id and passwords are false log in pages. With the same design as Facebook and use an attack method called phishing.

There are no official numbers on how many Facebook users have been cheated to give up their account details in this way, but Facebook themselves says this is a relatively low number compared to the amount of users of their system. They also say it is not in the same league as the Koobface virus in 2008.
