Morley Athletic Supply Company Inc. has been in business since 1931. As a fourth generation family member involved in the company, team sports is more than a job it's an obsession. With thousands of new products being developed and marketed every year it is important to keep coaches and players updated on what's new for their sport. I write articles to provide them with this information.
We get a lot of calls about air horns. Air horns come in many colors and sizes and with so many to choose from it can be hard to tell which is best for your needs and budget. Then there are the calls from coaches and equipment managers who are trying to determine which refills fit their horns. This quick article will explain the major differences between 5 popular models and will teach you how to pick the right refill for your horn.
The first horn to look at is the most popular seller of all time. The Falcon Push-Button Signal Horn is great for athletic events, rescue or any emergency signaling. This horn offers a blast louder than any other push-button horn available and is 100% ozone-safe and non flammable. This horn comes with a full 8 oz. refill. That's a full size refill for a lot of signaling. This horn features a blue top and the matching refills will say "push button" on the can.
The newest horn on the market and perhaps the hottest selling horn today in athletics is the Falcon Sports Horn. The Sports Horn is economically priced and features a smaller 5.5 oz refill can. Let's be clear- the can is actually the same physical size it just contains half as much gas. You will know you have a sports horn top because of the bright orange color. This horn operates just like the push button horn by depressing the button on top of the horn. Sports Horn refills are clearly marked "Sports Horn" on the can for easy pairing.
Back when I worked in the warehouse we shipped the Commander 4 Air Horn to the majority of schools. Of course that's back when customers were more concerned with longevity than price. These days the Commander 4 Air Horn is still the choice for those seeking the highest quality air horn with a classic look. Sporting a chrome horn top and a simple trigger style on/off switch the Commander 4 is most certainly the best looking air horn on the market. Well at least that's my opinion any way. It stacks up well against the Push Button Horn using an 8 oz refill can. These refills can not be interchanged though so keep them separate in the storage closet. The trigger operation and chrome horn top make the Commander 4 easy to pick out and the refill cans clearly boast the name "Commander 4" letting you know that they will only fit this classic horn.
It would seem that the price for the convenience provided by horns with disposable refills like those above is too high to pay for some. With that in mind some folks developed the EcoBlast Refillable Air Horn. This model can be refilled with plain old air and pumped to pressure with either a hand pump or compressor. As the name implies you simply refill the canister making it an economically and ecologically sound investment. Not as convenient as being able to screw on a new refill canister but it is becoming a popular choice. The initial price is a little higher than it's counterparts but it is durable and will last for hundreds of refills as long as no one walks off with it.
Last but not least, and not a contender at all in the athletic field, is the Falcon Super Sound Mini Horn. This horn is not designed for sporting events but rather as a personal safety device. It's small size and loud signal make it a good item to carry in a purse or pocket to alert people if you are in danger. A great item for joggers to scare off animals or people the Falcon Super Sound Mini Horn is inexpensive, safe and the 1.5 ounce refills are unmistakable do to there shrunken size. The refills are 100% ozone-safe-non-flammable. Compact- only 4-1/2" tall. Stainless steel, non-corrosive diaphragm and guaranteed unbreakable. I don't want to sell this horn short it does meets U.S. Coast Guard recommendations for boats up to 39 feet.
So there it is, 5 horns that are top sellers and their stories. Just remember that refills are not interchangeable. Many schools purchase the sport horn for its economical price as air horns do have a tendency to get lost or stolen but if you are purchasing one for personal use you know that this writer recommends the Commander 4. Hey, you can never half enough chrome. For those who are looking to save some money and get prompt shipment you can find all of the above air horns and more at www.morleyathletic.com at incredible prices.
