Dolphins get star power with entry of Anthony as minority owner

The incoming National Football League (NFL) season in October is getting more exciting this early for Miami Dolphins fans.

This developed after New Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross enlisted popular singer Marc Anthony as the new minority owner of the Miami , Florida based NFL team. The entry of Anthony into the Dolphins further strengthened the star power of the NFL team which already has Singer Gloria Estefan and her husband, producer Emilio Estefan in its fold.

Of course aside from Anthony, Hollywood actress Jennifer Lopez his wife will also take an active role for the Dolphins in support of his equally popular husband. Anthony said he decided to become the owner of Dolphins since he and Ross share the same vision which is to make the Dolphins become a much better team.

The Puerto Rican singer will formally enter the domain of the domain when he perform the national anthem when the Dolphins host the New York Jets on ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” on Oct. 12 as part of the NFL’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Anthony is an American & Latin Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter, actor and the biggest selling salsa music artist of all time, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. He is best known for his ballads and wide-ranging tenor vocals, and was the first solo salsa act to ever sell out Madison Square Garden .

He began his career as a session vocalist for Freestyle music and Underground New York House music acts. After changing his name to avoid confusion with his namesake, Anthony worked as a songwriter and backing vocalist for pop acts including Menudo and the Latin Rascals.

His first album was a Freestyle music record, "Rebel", in 1988 on Bluedog Records. That same year he wrote and produced "Boy I've Been Told" for fellow Freestyle artist Sa-Fire.

Then in 1989, he sang backup vocals for Ann-Marie, another fellow Freestyle artist on the Freestyle club hit, "With or Without You" produced by Little Louie Vega and Todd Terry. A year later, 1990, with Little Louie Vega and Todd Terry, Marc wrote and whispered a duet with Freestyle artist Chrissy I-eece, called "You Should Know By Now". In 1991, he sang backing vocals for another Freestyle track by the artist Edmond titled "Come Back To Me".

In 1992, still working with Todd Terry, he provided vocals for the Freestyle cut "Love Change" which is on the flip-side of a 12" vinyl released by Elan and The Powermachine titled "Here's Your Hat", production of Todd Terry. At the same time, he collaborated with his other Freestyle music producer Little Louie Vega, who featured the singer on many another Freestyle-flavored club hit "Ride On The Rhythm" and "When The Night Is Over" album, which featured the Freestyle classic "Time".

In 1992, Vega and Anthony opened for Latin bandleader Tito Puente at New York 's Madison Square Garden. After 1992, he changed his style from Freestyle music to salsa and other Spanish music. Ross for his part said he decided to get Anthony on-board for the Dolphins to make the team even more competitive in the incoming NFL season and capture more fans for the team.

He is optimistic that the entry of Anthony will not only boost the ticket sales but also the morale of the team. Off-season free-agent acquisition Jake Grove makes the Dolphins one of the contenders in the incoming NFL season. The 6-4, 300-pound Grove, 29, believes that his play against the AFC East premier defensive tackles last season such as New York ’s Kris Jenkins, Buffalo ’s Marcus Stroud and New England’s Vince Wilfork had plenty to do with Miami ’s decision to get his services.

With Anthony in the team, Dolphins do not only carry power within its players but star power as well. Those who love Anthony and football had now more reasons to watch the games live in the incoming NFL season.
