Lake Eufaula is known to many as the bass fishing capital of the world and it's with great reason that the lake has become so very popular with anglers from all over the country.

It's also famous for many other types of fishing as well. The Walter F. George Dam of the lake was completed by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers in 1962 which formed the 45,181 acre impoundment on the fertile Chattahoochee River. Located between Georgia and Alabama, you will need a license from one of these two states to fish here.

The closest major city to Lake Eufaula is Eufaula, Alabama, making this an ideal location for crappie fishing for people who live in the area or are traveling to or passing through. There are also many restaurants, hotels, shopping centers and other sights to see in the area so if you are going fishing at Eufaula or bringing the family along, there is something for everyone.

Now let's get to the topic at hand: the crappie. As you may well know, crappie are found in most every state in the continental United States. They live in most any type of freshwater source and they are typically quite easy to catch if you know the proper technique.

Where to Fish For Eufaula Crappie

Now if you're wondering where you need to go to fish in this great lake, here are some areas and how you can find more information:

Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge:
Highway 165 approximately 10 miles north of Eufaula
(334) 687 - 4065

Lakepoint State Park:
Hosts fishing tournaments every weekend
Located off Highway 431 seven miles north of Eufaula
(334) 687 - 8011

Lake Eufaula is also famous for its fishing of all types of species, with black crappie topping that list. If you visit Eufaula in the spring, you have especially great chances of catching lots of black crappie.

If you live in or near the area, or if you are planning to travel to Eufaula for crappie fishing sometimes soon, you can look into fishing reports for the area to find out more about what fishing spots are available, their rules and regulations and more.

When to Fish at Eufaula for Crappie
So when are some of the best times for Eufaula crappie fishing? Well, most any time of the year you will find crappie in Eufaula but some of the best times for easy fishing is spring. The season starts around late February and carries through mid-April for the best crappie fishing. This is their spawning period and they are often found closer to the surface and much more ready to bite.

When fishing in the spring for crappie at Eufaula, you can fish pretty much any time of day and probably have success. However, usually late in the evenings the fish will move a bit deeper in the body of water. You may need to go to 20 feet deep or more to get bites.

During cooler seasons of the year, the crappie may be a little harder to find. You may need to fish at lower depths and deeper in the water. You may want to stick to certain times of the day when the fish are more likely to be at depths that work for you. Early in the morning, the crappie often come to the surface of the lake for feeding. In the midday when the sun is hottest, they may retreat deeper in the waters.
