F1: Sebastian Vettel wins the British GP

Dramatically and with absolute control of his car, the young driver Sebastian Vettel, who competes for the Red Bull Racing team, was able to overcome the pressure of the other powerful drivers such as the championship leader Jenson Button, who could not stand out this time and had no other choice but just watch how the German became the winner of the eighth event of the F1 World Championship. Vettel, who also won the pole position and ran the fastest lap in the competition, had an impressive performance at Silverstone. This was in part due to his ability to drive his car to perfection, but as well due to the successful technological improvements the team made at the Red Bull RB5, a car that became a powerful high-level machine that none could catch up with. For this Grand Prix, Red Bull implemented in their car as many improvements as they could, ranging from changes in the front to the rear suspension, among others. All this served to raise the level of competition of the car, which showed an outstanding performance in the classification tests prior the main event. In the midst of an afternoon with a cool but sunny weather, Vettel started from the first position on the grid with an impeccable driving; his superiority was evident with each turn of the track whereas the other drivers, which could not manage to reach him, were struggling trying to pass each other on a track where overtaking is very difficult, almost impossible to do. While all this was happening, Sebastian Vettel remained in front highly concentrated, leading in a clean and elegant way, but with the reassurance of knowing that he had an advantage of approximately 20 seconds over his closest pursuers. Although the track conditions on the United Kingdom competition were very similar to those presented in the previous challenge, the Grand Prix of Turkey, the story was not the same. This time the performance of the leader Jenson Button could not even be compared with the job he has done in previous events, where it has been him who has set the pace of the race from start to finish, which is quite difficult to understand why after being so dominating and constant before, this time his performance turned out so diminished. This is the second time in the year that the drivers of the Brawn GP team are displaced by Sebastián Vettel and his teammate Mark Webber, giving a double-victory to Red Bull. This is one factor that seems to give a new twist to the world of Formula One, because despite the considerable distance that Vettel, who is third in the overall standings with 39 points, has with respect to Button, at first with 64 units, this victory in some way breaks with the monotony of seeing always the same winner. This victory also gives an opportunity Vettel of aiming for the world championship title. This opportunity is a small one, though, for the current point’s difference, but the young German could still be in a favorable position if, for instance, Button abandon a competition at some point. With this victory, in which Red Bull won with authority and dominance, Sebastian Vettel has retained his third place in the overall drivers, coming only two points away of the second position. In the United Kingdom the podium was completed by Mark Webber, who came second and also did a great job, followed by Rubens Barrichello, who overshadowed even more the performance of his teammate Button, who finished sixth.

By: Thomas Kearns | 09/12/2009
In the second half of the 14th century merchants introduced what was then commonly called "Saracen cards" into medieval Europe. We all know what the world cup is and we all have our favorites to win the FIFA tournament in 2010, but I'm willing to bet you don't know the storied history behind the actual cup and how it came about (and no, for the Americans reading, this is not another case like the Stanley Cup where it started out as a small cup and ended up being a cereal bowl, well not quite anyway.).

ATP tennis: Nikolay Davydenko takes the Barclays World Tour Finals title

By: Stephen Lars | 03/12/2009 | Tennis
Since turning pro in 1999, Nikolay Davydenko has won over 18 titles; despite the fact that he has had some success in the Grand Slams (reaching semifinals in both the French and US Opens, and a 4th place in Wimbledon) this Sundays’ victory over Juan Martin del Potro in the World Tour Finals Championship Game is still his biggest win ever. In what might very well be the best week of his career, Davydenkdo defeated every 2009 Grand Slam Champion to take the World Tour Finals title.

NFL –The Saints and the Colts hold a perfect 10-0 record after week 11

By: Stephen Lars | 28/11/2009 | Football
Neither the New Orleans Saints nor the Indianapolis Colts have faced defeat this season –but is that good enough for a Super Bowl ticket? Both teams certainly hold a better record than any other team in the league; they have already faced strong teams in their recent games, so there is no reason to believe the 10-0 record is just a lucky strike; if this was not enough the Colts have the best defense and the Saints the best offense of the season. So, are they ready for February’s big game?

Let’s face it: we are still 5 months away from the Final Four, but that hasn’t stopped many sport-writers and fans from speculating on which teams will take the NCAA Basketball National Championship. The Sports Book Industry has been a bit more conservative, having yet to put up consolidated lines for the NCAA Championship favorites, but the Kansas Jayhawks and the Michigan State Spartans are certainly going to be among the top four picks.
