The odds of you gaining a set are higher that you completing a run before the game end. The probability of both players waiting for the same card(s) to complete his or her set is lower than the chances of both players aiming for particular cards to complete their runs.

Learn to have a good poker face. If you happen to acquire the card that you're aiming for then hide you glee or wiped away the excitement in your face. Even if your opponent cannot see your cards, your facial reaction can throw your victory away.
