A group of Gators, track and field athletes, were in action on Saturday at the Sun Angel Track Classic at Arizona State, where the Gators picked up six NCAA regional marks, three of which improved the individual’s standing on the NCAA descending order list.
Both the men’s and women’s javelin were excellent events for the Gators. Four of its NCAA regional standards and two of its three improvements on the day came in that event. Junior Adam Montague (Townsville, Australia) won the men’s competition with a toss of 73.40m/240-10 that fell less than two feet short of his season best. Freshman Doug Nelson (Tampa, Fla.) was also over the NCAA regional cut with a hefty toss of 61.38m/201-4 which helped him finish sixth and put him just short of his top mark on the year. Sophomore Evelien Dekkers (Etten-Leur, The Netherlands) made an improvement in the women’s javelin, earning runner-up honors with a throw of 51.76m/169-10 to record a season best and NCAA regional mark for the second week in a row. Classmate Star Sansone (Boca Raton, Fla.) finished fifth, but improved her lifetime best for the second consecutive day with an NCAA regional-qualifying shot of 46.93m/154-0. With that effort, she surpassed the PR of 46.77m/153-5 that she set on Friday night at the Mesa Classic.
Junior Beau Burroughs (Tampa, Fla.) also registered a PR on Saturday, coming in eighth in the men’s shot put with an outdoor career-best heave of 17.50m/57-5. This earned Burroughs his second NCAA regional mark of the year in the event. Sophomore Mariam Kevkhishvili (Tbilisi, Georgia), the 2008 NCAA indoor shot put champion, competed in the invitational/elite section of the women’s shot put, and finished second.
This is starting out to be a great season and it’s a good time to buy gator goods and gear while spring sports start heating up!!!

As if Things Weren’t Tough Enough… By: Majestic Help | 27/04/2008 | Sports and Fitness As If Things Weren’t Tough Enough…
Basketball season ground to a difficult halt for the Florida Gators several weeks ago, but considering the fact that the team lost their experienced players at the end of last season, the young, inexperienced current team fought the best it could as far as the NIT finals. It wasn’t a pretty end, but experience is a hard, but great, teacher, and this team learned some lessons that wil help it come out more stable next season.
