Increase Your Vertical Jumps: How to Overcome Higher Obstacles In Parkour?

Have you, too, recently been caught up by an urban movement called “parkour”? And are you keen to increase your vertical jumps when leaping over urban obstacles?

Parkour is an exciting form of exercise often practiced outdoors in urban areas. It started in France some years ago but has taken many countries by storm ever since. This particular feeling usually occurs at a very early stage of your parkour experience. You start full of enthusiasm, just to discover that most obstacles are actually higher than they appear. So you toughen up and force yourself onto higher jumps and leaps. Just to feel your entire body in heavy muscle pain on the very next day. It can be very daunting but there are ways to overcome this.

While a decent overall fitness with a good strength in your arms and upper body is crucial for parkour, the core requirement is your ability to jump high enough to overcome any static obstacle. So to increase your vertical jumps for parkour you want to focus on building specific skills such as:

  • Muscle strength and quickness,
  • Stability and balance,
  • Form and flexibility,
  • And your body composition.

You can easily train most of your overall fitness at the gym, using basic weight lifting and cardiovascular exercises. However, these exercises will not increase your vertical jumps.
