Ivanovic is Chelsea’s Second Acquisition of the Year

After two seasons in the Lokomotiv the centre back finally agreed to sign a contract with the Chelsea. The Premier League Club will spend around 20 million Pounds for the Serbian player.

The talented player is moving from the Russian team to the Premier League after an outstanding career in the Lokomotiv where he made 54 top-flight appearances, he was recognized as one of the best players in Moscow and also captained his country in last year’s European Championship when it was named the UEFA team of the tournament. Actually; he had been touted as the best young defender in Europe.

The Serbian began his career in his home town club before signing with the OFK Beograd, team in which he showed a valuable performance; enough to earn his eight international caps in the summer of 2006. During his amateur career, Branislav played as a right back defence but some injuries pushed him to eventually switched to centre position.

The popular player has also been tracked by other prominent clubs like: A.C Milan, Barcelona, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus, but the work permit has already been granted and Chelsea has won the race to sign him. This means very soon we will be able to see him in the line up of one of the most recognized teams in Europe.
Ivanovic’s new teammates are very satisfy with the signing; according to the striker Garry O’Connor, who knows the Blues new defensive stated he is a really good player and it’s been a really good acquisition for Chelsea to get him.
On the other hand, Branislav is also very content with his move, he declared to Chelsea’s website: “It is the dream of every footballer to want to move on and improve himself and the ultimate is to play for such a big team as this."

The Serbian player is the second sign of the year for the England Club that decided to contract him; thanks to the high performance he showed during last summer’s European Under-21 Championship; the club has been trailing his signature ever since. Chelsea has already paid 15 million pounds for the French star, Nicolas Anelka at the beginning of January. The French footballer, who plays in the forward position, is also a quoted player in Europe.
