Not everyone wants to make their own bean bag game, and not everyone knows how. For those who do want to take on this kind of project, however, it may be easier than they think. Instructions for building these kinds of games can easily be found on the Internet, and they are not complex or difficult to follow. Having a basic knowledge of woodworking helps, but it is not required, and there are only simple tools needed. Because of this, it is very easy for almost anyone to create their own bean bag game and have hours of fun with it afterward. The building of a bean bag game can also be a good family activity for people who like to do things together. It is an opportunity to teach children about working with tools and working with others, and they can get their hands dirty in a safe environment where they can enjoy working with wood and tools. The bags for the bean bag game are often purchased, but they do not have to be. They can be made as well, and it is possible to hand sew them if a sewing machine is not available.
These bags are generally filled with hard plastic pellets. The original ones were filled with dried corn or dried beans - hence the name bean bag toss or sometimes Cornhole game. These work very well, but if they get wet they can become damaged and have to be thrown out. To try to avoid those kinds of problems, and to help protect the game board as well, it is important to bring your bean bag game set - whether bought or hand made - in when you are not using it. It helps to protect it from the elements and makes it last much longer. This is especially true of the store bought plastic boards, as the sun can eventually weaken them and make them crack. For the bean bag toss bags, though, a durable but soft cloth should be purchased. They have to be able to withstand being tossed onto the board, but they should not be made of something that will be too rough on the hands of the people who throw them. Some people are very dedicated to learning to play the bean bag game well, and they will sometimes practice and play for hours. The softness of the cloth on the bags is important to them.
In addition, the sewing of the bags is very important because they must be durable, and the stitching must be tight enough to keep the contents from spilling out. Ideally they should be sewn on a machine, but they can be sewn by hand if a person stitches them tightly and carefully. Once they are made properly they will last for a long time. Put them together with a wooden bean bag game board that has no sharp edges and that has been coated to be better protected from the elements, and a person will have the opportunity for game play for many years to come.
