New York Jets - Ewbank And Namath: Leading Jets To Make A Mark In NFL

We all have our own history to tell. The stories of our lives differ because we all have our own experiences and exposures. Along the way, we meet different people and from them, we learn many things. In addition, what we have learned or whom we have encountered can change us for the better or for worse.

In the field of sports, everything is also like that. The success of the team may rely on who acquires the team, the coach hired and the players drafted. This goes the same particularly in American Football. You may see that being a professional athlete is all glamour and status quo but there is more to that. Before you get on that stage, these players go through before they become the crowd favorite.

The existence of the team may also be a struggle in NFL. It is all about who finance whom and how they manage the team. It is also about whom they hire to play for the team and how that person affects the performance of the team. The person they hire is considered an investment. Every now and then, the players and coaches chosen are risks to take. However, it can make a considerable amount of gains for the owners when the team starts pulling the crowd.

New York Jets was one of the NFL teams who had to struggle in the beginning because their first owners were losing in the business. It was not because the team did poorly in the game but because the team was just not attracting people to watch their games. Sonny Werblin at Leon Hess saved the team from bankruptcy.

In their early years, several people were considered the key persons for their early success. Below are some of them:

1.Joe Namath- He was known to have increased the level of play for this team. His leadership improved their performance, leading them to win a game in Super Bowl. Because of their win, they proved that AFL was not just a minor league and that AFL can beat NFL (since NFL was supposedly the better than AFL) teams. With this hall of famer in the team, it was no doubt that they could.
2.Weeb Ewbank- He was the first coach hired by the team after it being bought out from bankruptcy. He coached a team from both AFL and NFL. All of these teams went into the world championships. After leading the Colts to their two consecutive championships, he was fired and that is how he landed a contract with New York Jets. He also led them to their World Championships. They made a mark in the NFL by being the first champions in the AFL-NFL merger.

Now these two people are no longer with the team. Namath had a lot of injuries after leading the team for so many victories that he was drafter to the Rams. Ewbank is no longer a coach as he retired in 1972. Rest assured, they will be forever be given credit for peak years of the team. Because of their contribution, they most deserve to be in the Hall of Fame.
