The Sandusky River is located in the Northern part of Ohio and it is a branch of the well-known Lake Erie. This river is approximately 150 miles long and the upper part of the river was declared a State Scenic River in the year 1970 by the Ohio Government. This should give you an idea of the beauty it has to offer the angler that visits this area. The beginning of this river starts in Richland County and ends up flowing into Lake Erie.

One of the most popular species of fish found in the Sandusky River is the Walleye and there are plenty of them in this river although, sometimes they may be hard to find. If you are interested in fishing for bass on this river it would be a good idea to learn as much about it as you possible can. It stands to reason that the more you know about a river and its environment, the more successful you will be at fishing this body of water.

Walleye Fishing Tips

As mentioned above the Sandusky River is one of the best places to go if you want to go walleye fishing. To help you get the most out of all of your fishing trips here are some walleye fishing tips that can be very useful.

First of all, if you want to catch the walleye you need to know where to look for them. When fishing the Sandusky River you will find the walleye in open areas, around structures and in both the shallow and deep water depending on the time and season you go fishing. Therefore, to be a successful walleye angler, you need to know where to look for them and when, which as mentioned above will depend on the season and the time of day you go fishing for the walleye.

The main places where walleye can be found include weeds, breaks, rocks, trees and other structures. Many times they are also found suspended in open water. Any angler that is familiar with this area will tell you that the best place to go walleye fishing on this river will be around Brady's Island all the way to Rodger Young Park. This is where the walleye tend to hang out the most abundantly.

You will be able to find walleye on the Sandusky River all year long but not in very large numbers. The best time to fish for walleye on this lake is in the spring during the spawning season. This is when you will see an abundance of this species and be able to catch the most fish. Usually the spawning season runs from the middle of March to the middle of April with the peak of the season starting during the last week of March. The ideal water temperature for spawning is between forty-two degrees and fifty-two degrees.

Techniques

There are many techniques that can be used to fish for walleyes. One of the most popular one used in this river includes vertical jigging. This technique works the best when the walleye are inactive and when they hold up around structures.
