K.B. Jones, also known as “Keyboard Jones,” is the infamous and enigmatic reviewer, who is legendary in the puzzle games. While Jones claims to own at least one of every video game console ever made and is a self-proclaimed master of PC gaming (thus the nickname), he has publicly stated that the future of gaming lies in the Internet and free game downloads.
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Keyboard Jones. Apparently I have a bit of a following out there in the interwebs. What can I say, except whoot! These guys have apparently heard of me to and they asked me to put together a little editorial. I pointed out that the “keyboard” in my name doesn’t refer to writing skills, but they weren’t having any of that. So, here I am.
They originally requested that my piece be focused on online gaming and how the availability of download services might impact the traditional disc or cartridge-based gaming distribution system. Instead, I’m going to walk you through what I think are the best puzzle games out there today. And so I give to you, my current Top Three games that make you think, for those times when fraggin everything in sight seems a little beneath you.
Number Three: Glyph
Five different world, 255 levels and cool graphics.
Number Two: 4 Elements
Adds some nice twists including cards and an animated storyline. They put some thought into this one.
Number One: Jewel Quest
You guys are familiar with Jewel Quest, right? The basic concept is timeless; match three or more objects in a row on a grid to knock those items off, gaining points. Jewel Quest added the twist of a Mayan setting with relics and gold as well as the jewels. The gameplay was incredibly addictive and landed Jewel Quest on a whack of Top Ten lists, not to mention several “Best Puzzle Game” awards. It’s been released on multiple platforms, including mobile, Nintendo DS, X-Box Live and online.
If your parents are giving you a rough time about spending too much time playing “ultra violent” video games, throw one of these babies on instead and convince them that you’re developing your mind, not just your trigger finger.
