Walleye Post Spawn

Walleye season will be soon upon us. Sure it seems like a long time coming but what will do for sports angling for Walleye fish during the upcoming post-spawn as well as pre summer Walleye fishing time periods?

After spawning Walleye fish generally to most accounts do not instantly move out to different "locales". On most meso lakes there is a more slow dispersal that if anything resembles a "filtering" or a filter like process.

You can count on it. It is a classic Walleye fishing pattern during these Post spawn and Pre-Summer fishing time seasonal periods. It has been said and noted by the most experienced and seasoned Walleye fishing experts and outfitters that the most obvious cases have been observed to occur on the large windswept meso lakes, where there are huge schools of Walleye fish moving from area to area according to the changing seasons of the year.

Lake Mille Lac in the central areas of the northern US state of Minnesota is a most perfect example. Lac Mille Lac has got miles of shallow shorelines for spawning of those killer evasive Walleyes. These shallow shorelines are a most clear cut early spring location. The bulk of the Walleye fish move many many miles out in the main lake areas where they relate and can be found and located in the 20 to 25 feet deep humps. But and however, where do these Walleye go in the interim time periods? Well it can be said, by expert outfitters alike? As they begin the retreat out toward the main lakes areas, the fish tend to hold up for a while, lingering it seems, on the shallow, nearby offshore reefs until summer does arrive. It all makes sense it seems, to both the Walleye fish and to avid Walleye enthusiasts who after all those killer Walleye fish to find, fish land. Finally land successfully.

Similar events are sure to happen and can be counted on to occur on Lake Winnebago in Wisconsin, Lake Winnipeg Canada as well as Lake of the Woods Minnesota or Ontario depending, and on Lake Erie. In fact these walleye fish and fishing post spawn and pre summer fishing routines and almost seasonal cycles can be counted to happen on any lake where there are similar conditions.

Along the way the Walleye will relate to the closer off shore reefs first - those that are nearest the spawning grounds. Next they will move out to the ones a little further out and then even later to those that are even further out and farther away. All in all it can be said and summarized Walleye fish will continue to do this until they establish the next step in their annual summer routines - that is until the next step in the yearly cycle - that is their establishment of what might be called their normal summertime patterns.
