Windsurfing Clubs

Often novices who want to indulge in windsurfing feel the need for a proper guiding channel that would help them in learning the basic techniques of the sport. Joining a windsurfing club can go a long way in resolving this problem and allow enthusiasts to practice windsurfing at a recreational or at a competitive level. These clubs help the members in exploring whole range of windsurfing avenues.

Windsurfing Clubs

There are several windsurfing clubs that have come up in the last few years. However, some of the more popular windsurfing clubs are as follows:

1. Toronto Windsurfing Club: One of the oldest windsurfing clubs, the Toronto Windsurfing Club first made its mark in the late 1970s. By 1985, the club had already recorded 300 members in its list of club members. Since then, the Toronto Club has provided great guidance on windsurfing and made windsurfing an extremely enjoyable experience. The club covers every discipline in windsurfing and members can enroll to one or more programs depending upon their skill and degree of interest.

There are special windsurfing programs and camps for youngsters which have a perfect blend of fun and learn. The club is completely run by a dedicated team of volunteers and members can volunteer for various activities depending upon their time and inclination. In association with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Toronto organization, the club takes special efforts to provide windsurfing opportunities for youngsters who may otherwise not get a chance to indulge in it.

2. Austin Windsurfing Club: Affiliated to the US Windsurfing Association, the Austin Windsurfing Club has a packed calendar with several windsurfing events lined up for not just its members but even for keen non-members. The list of events includes beginner series, lectures by expert windsurfers, windsurfing camps and beach clean-up drives. The club is presided over by Chris Davis while Dylan Van Meter is the vice-President.

3. Cayuga Windsurfing Club: The club is dedicated for the development of windsurfing in the region of Cayuga Lake, which is situated in Tompkins County in New York. The Cayuga Club receives regular support from Cornell University, Johnson's Boatyard and East Shore Sailing. The most prominent events of the Cayuga Club include the Windsurfing Clinic, Swap Meets and clinics conducted by expert windsurfers.

4. Evanston: The Evanston Windsurfing Club boasts of more than 100 members and is based in Illinois. The club regularly organizes windsurfing seminars, windsurfing festivals, Swap Meets and windsurfing races.

5. Bristol Nomads Windsurfing Club: The Bristol Nomads Windsurfing Club was established about 20 years back and is mainly into recreational windsurfing. Its activities are mainly concentrated around south-west England and western part of Wales.

From 1984 to 1990, this club was known as the Almondsbury Windsurfing Club. However, in 1990, it changed its name to Bristol Nomads Windsurfing Club and currently boasts of more than 100 members. Steve Powell is the Chairman of this club while Viv Powell is the Secretary of the club.

Apart from the United States and the United Kingdom, other countries wherein such windsurfing clubs are active include Sweden, Australia, New Zealand & Hungary. Thus, be it for fun or to learn, joining a windsurfing club can help in enhancing your windsurfing skills to a great extent.

I agree, that one of best way to enjoyed life is to have fun specially when you get bored.
In fact windsurfing can be said to straddle both the laid-back culture of surf sports and the more rules-based environment of sailing. The sport has a potentially shallower (longer) learning curve when compared to other so-called "extreme" sports. But, are there easy way to learn surfing?

I agree, But in order to understand a bit more of windsurfing, you need to know that is like a surfboard but it is powered by the wind. The rig is connected to the board by a free rotating flexible joint or U joint, unlike a sailboat, a windsurfer is steered by the tilting and rotating of the mast and sail as well as tilting and carving the board. Take note that while trying windsurfing the ideal planning conditions for most recreational sailors is 15-25 knots, good luck! But why isn’t hard to go surfing?
