"When you discover your mission, you will feel its demand. It will fill you with enthusiasm and a burning desire to get to work on it." W. Clement Stone
Create a personal mission statement. We all have a mission in life but few of us have ever written it down. Writing down our mission for our life and our business is the foundation. We can not build our life or our business without it. It is the first thing you need to do prior to beginning this next phase of your life. When writing your mission, ask yourself, "What is my purpose on this earth?" "What is the purpose of my business?"
Share your mission with others. Anything we share out loud has more power than when we keep it a secret. By sharing your mission with others, you engage them and at the same time you hold yourself accountable. A mission kept private is really not a mission - a mission shared out loud has the power to transform your life and your organization.
Create visual mission reminders. Write out your personal mission and hang it in your office. Find other objects that symbolize your mission and decorate your office with these items. Visual mission reminders will help keep us on track even when we do not realize it.
Leave a legacy. Writing a legacy statement. A legacy statement should answer the following statement, as the result of my life, ( ) will be ( ). Basically you write out how the world will be different by your having been in it.
Surround yourself with mission minded people. I LOVE to be with people who are driven by their mission in life - their energy is contagious. If you don’t know anyone who is mission minded, get out and get networking. You need people in your life with mission and vision in order to really grow as an entrepreneur.
Strive to make a difference every day. Making a difference in the lives of others each and every day will not only grow you as a person - it will eventually grow your business. You create a powerful network when you strive to make a difference in each interaction you participate in. Start now. Ask yourself each day, how can I make a difference today? As you begin to focus on making a difference it becomes a habit - a way of life that will bring more opportunity your way than you ever imagined possible.
Define your core values. Defining our values will help us to define our future. If I am clear about my values, I can be clear about how and when I do my work and my life. Without these guiding principles, it is easy to get sidetracked or say 'yes' when we should say 'no'.
Live with passion! Passion is the fuel that will keep us moving towards our dreams. We need to live lives that are passionate. Passion provides energy and it will give us the jump start we need we things don't go the way we hoped they would. Define your passion, live your passion, share your passion!
Refuel your passion every day. Put reminders on your desk, read your favorite quote, hang around passionate people - just do something every day that will keep refueling your passion. Passion is easy to lose - we must work at it daily.
Take time to get to know yourself on a regular basis. This may sound weird but most people do not really take the time to discover who they really are and what they really like. Take time each week alone doing something for yourself. Use this time to get to know yourself more. The more you know who you are the more mission focused you will be.
Be open to new people and experiences. Keeping an open mind and allowing new experiences and people into your life can bring unexpected gifts and help keep your passion and mission alive.
Be transparent. Let your mission shine through all you do both in your personal life and in your business. Being transparent allows others to see who you are and what your stand for. The healthiest organizations are the ones who are most transparent.
