Maria Pesin has launched and built three successful companies with sales exceeding $20 million. Currently the President of a major celebrity fashion brand, she has succeeded in building a career spanning 25 years that has brought hersuccess, recognition, fulfillment, and financial independence.
Stephen Covey, author of the best-selling book "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" says that we should always sharpen "the saw." "Saw" is a metaphor for people. If it isn't sharp than we are cutting with a dull edge. If we are not healthy in body and mind, we won't have the Energy to accomplish our career goals.
One of my first jobs was as a receptionist. I was also into clubbing. Each night found me at a night club dancing till the wee hours of the morning. After a while I found the lack of sleep seriously interfered with my work. One day while filing I found myself dozing over the drawer. I had to repeatedly pinch myself to stay awake. I am sure if my boss noticed she would have sent me home.
This is an extreme, however, taking care of yourself before you do anything else is of prime importance. If you want to have a great career you need to accomplish a lot in a day.
In order to accomplish a lot you should make sure you get enough sleep. I hear people say they can survive on 5 or 6 hours sleep. But, can they really be their sharpest on that little sleep? So try to get at least 8 hours of sleep per night. Eat healthy and get regular exercise. Also make sure you keep your physical and dental appointments at a regularly scheduled intervals.
As Ben Franklin said " Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise."
