There is no doubt, what-so-ever, that it is imminent to face different type of the problems at different period of our lives and as we grow physically, mentally and intellectually we get prepared and gain more confidence to face higher and more & severe degrees of problems attached to these above three modes and states of existence. If there are no problems; life is not exciting and worth living. Only problems and more and more of them mature us to accomplish something. When we think of a problem, two words which neutralize this problem come immediately to the focal length of our mental frame; i.e. ‘Solve’ & ‘Resolve’. Though they sound quite similar and mean almost same but carries a great amount of dissimilarities too. The Oxford Advance Learners’ dictionary states the meanings thus: Solve – find an ans. to a problem, explain or make it clear. (Quite a simple form of arrival at a solution) Resolve - to decide firmly; determine & solve or settle. The differing degree is quite visible. Resolving the problems could be settling a long pending and nagging issue which had been constantly reminding us of its existence and each time giving an uneasy feeling thus to gain peace of mind this has to be resolved come what may and till it is done I will not have a peaceful sleep whereas solving the problem looks quite a gentler cousin i.e. solve it as and when it comes; each time it could be with a new face and new characteristics, each time different methods to be adopted to solve them. Each problem is faced as a new one with new solutions employed. Practically we will have to face both types of problems from time to time. Only problems hone the quality of life. All the developments, technologies, civilizations, inventions, discoveries and refinements, are the positive outcome of facing problems by mankind like a MAN and looking at it eye to eye. Immortal leaders, flourishing business and all the goods of luxury which we enjoy are the outcome of successful elimination of problems.
I am reminded of a shloka from Bhagwat Gita which says thus: *Yaddydacharati sreshsthstatdevetaro janah; sa yatpramaanam kurute lokstdenuvartate. Accurately meaning thus: * Whatever a great man does, that is imitated by all others. What he demonstrates by actions, that alone people follow. * Written as one pronounces in Sanskrit and its translation in English.
- Bhagwat Gita (Chap.3 Vers.21).
Thus for a successful man this taking problems head-on could work out to be an addiction like one of my successful surgeon at very young age used to say – Till I perform minimum 5 surgeries a day I feel as if I have not worked at all and I feel dull the whole day. I also recollect a small but highly potent saying which I saw in Times of India’s Sacred Space column which fully justifies and proxies my above statement and the precious experiences of my life.
There is no way out of the desert
except through it.
Author unknown.
We just cannot get out of a problem by running away from it. Initially one may be eluded by the temporary relief for some time by doing so but on a later date it comes back with magnified & powerful tentacles, to come out of which it may be quite difficult or may be impossible too.
In short problems have to be challenged and tackled head-on and not to cower away from it and if we try to dodge it, next time could be a painful experience which we may not like to share with others. This problem is not faced by one faculty alone but all the three; like body, mind and intellect. When this problem is seen and felt by the grossest of all i.e. body, this information is immediately transmitted to mind which starts processing and looks into all the data collected during the past experiences and retransmits the value added data to intellect and finally intellect with all its vital and rich experiences of this and past lives instructs body with a suitable course of action to be undertaken. Please note that later two faculties are subtle and subtler in order. So many times it so happens that we do not take right decision and get into ditch due to wrong choice and resultant conclusion leading to downfall or failure. That is because our faculty of mind was not balanced due to lots of wrong types of life-style and other bad habits inculcated by us thus leading the mind to take unbalanced decision and passing on corrupt data to intellect and since intellect too was not balanced due to mind’s input of corrupt data; intellect’s decision too becomes wrong and this gentleman of me holds his head between both hands or maybe jumps from NIAGARA FALLS! Or successfully make a .22mm bore into his temple. Thus a balanced mind is too important and reliable friend to get.
