The History of Body Wraps
Body wraps have been around for several years, dating all the way back to the ancient Egyptians. Body wraps at that time were utilized in body sculpting and primarily worked to stimulate circulation. Over the past 30 years, with the increase in science in the cosmetic industry, many people are curious if body wraps really work. Body wraps have become one of the hottest cosmetic tools short of liposuction and are becoming increasingly popular in the salon, massage, and spa industries.

Two Different Types of Body Wraps
There are essentially two different types of body wraps on the market today. Both types employ a large emphasis on moisturizing, healing, and conditioning the skin. However, the primary function of the two types is drastically different.

The first type of body wrap, creates inch loss primarily through water elimination. These water elimination wraps are very useful for a big event, when a person might like to look their best for a short period of time, but the inch loss is only temporary. This technique is similar to that which could be obtained through excessive sweating during exercise or time spent in a sauna.

The second type of body wrap creates inch loss by aiding the lymphatic system the removal of stored toxins introduced to the body through poor dieting, the environment, and pollutants. These wraps stimulate a process called lymphatic drainage, where toxins and fatty acids from your cells are released into the capillaries and eliminated along with the body’s waste. Drinking large quantities of water during this type of body wrap is common to help facilitate the detoxification and fat loss. Although the results of this type of wrap vary depending on an individual’s toxin level, the inch loss obtained from this type is often permanent.

The shape, size, and ingredients used in the body wraps can vary tremendously. Some helpful things to consider when shopping for a body wrap are:

Natural Ingredients -- all natural is always best for all skin types
No Mess -- always easier if the ointment comes pre-applied and not separate from the wrap
Private Use -- convenient if you can apply the body wrap within the privacy of your own home

The Conclusion
Yes, body wraps do work.

The basic understanding by many industry experts, is that fat loss can be facilitated through a body wrap regiment, but, one must pay careful attention, as the majority of wraps available are simply diuretics that remove excess water weight. Many industry experts also agree that body wraps should be used in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise program to achieve true results. Simply using a body wrap will not keep the inches off, if diet and/or exercise regiments are unhealthy.

Weight Gain
By: cindy | 10-08-2008
I have a difficult time with water weight.  My weight can fluctuate as much as 7 pounds within a given day.  Does anyone have any information concerning this problem.  I am 51 years old, in the midst of menopause.  I am very active and exercise everyday for no less that 45 minutes at a moderate to high intensity.  This is not muscle; I know the difference.  I take the herbal compounds, but I wonder if there is an underlying culprit that I need to address.  My blood pressure is normally 110/70 so this is not a problem either.

My lab cross is shedding and losing weight
By: Mandi | 06-08-2008
Hello. I hope you can help my dog here. She is a 4 year old Lab x with rotti. Its right now the beginning of August and she is shedding a lot! I'm talking that in some places (thighs and upper body near her neck) I can pull out the some of the fur. Why would she be shedding this much when it's already August? My family and I have also noticed she's lost some weight. Is it because it's so hot that she's shedding some pounds from the heat? During normal walks she is slow and it's as if she doesn't want to walk. Yet yesterday I went on an adventure walk in the forest with her and she was happy running around free.   Is there something wrong with her? I don't think she could be under any stress. She's eating Kirkland dog food from Costco and we added some "Lean Cuts" can food (just 2 tablespoons along with 2-3 cups of dog food). She eats all her food especially when we add canned food.   The vet is so expensive that my mom wants to try and figure this out herself. But if you suggest we go to the vet as maybe she has parasites or something please say so.   Thank you for your time.   -Adelyn and my dog Mandi
