Have You Had a Look at the Side Effects of Green Tea?

Green tea side effects can include increased urination, rapid heart beat, headache, insomnia, anxiety, nervousness and other problems that are primarily related to its caffeine content.  You can avoid unwanted side effects of green tea and still get the health benefits by taking a supplement that includes the extract.  The extracts have little or no caffeine content.

People that love the beverage often limit their intake because of the green tea side effects that are caused by caffeine.  Although the content is about half of what you will find in an equivalent cup of coffee, it is still enough to be concerned about.  The content varies from plant to plant and even from cup to cup.  A longer brew time may increase the content, but most of the caffeine is actually extracted during the first minute of steeping.

Other than those caused by the caffeine, there are no other known side effects of green tea, as long as a person doesn’t go overboard.  There has been some indication of toxicity to the liver at very high concentrations, but this has only been found in laboratory studies.  No toxic effects have ever been seen in humans, even at very high dosages with concentrated extracts.

Now, that you know a little more about the possible green tea side effects, you might be interested in the health benefits.  There are actually a number of possible benefits, having to do with the antioxidants and other polyphenols found in the leaves.

To Your Heart

The benefits and side effects of green tea were originally studied because of a reduced incidence of heart disease among regular green tea drinkers.  Animal studies have shown that the catechins in the leaves improve the contractibility of the heart muscle and inhibit clotting and clogging of the arteries.

However, the research is not conclusive enough for health supplement manufacturers to make claims concerning positive green tea side effects in relation to the heart.  There are some basic vitamins, minerals and amino acids that are known to be beneficial to the heart, including vitamin D3, magnesium and l-arginine.

To Prevent Cancer

Eventually, the benefits and side effects of green tea were studied because of observational studies.  Researchers noted that there was a lower than average incidence of stomach and throat cancer among regular drinkers.  Over the years, multiple studies have been conducted concerning a decreased cancer risk and supplement manufacturers are now allowed to state that the extract may help to prevent prostate and breast cancer.

For Fat Loss

Increased fat oxidation has been seen in numerous studies.  But, before you run out and buy a fat burner, remember the unwanted side effects of green tea caffeine.  Most of the fat burners on the market contain excessive amounts of caffeine, more than enough to cause the unwanted symptoms mentioned at the beginning of this article.

Other supplements that may aid in fat loss include resveratrol, ginkgo biloba and chromium.  To avoid the green tea side effects and get the most benefit of any kind, look for a multi-nutritional supplement that contains the extract and many of the other nutrients mentioned here.  It’s simply the best value for your money.
