Health Benefits Of Turmeric, Turmeric Health Benefits

Anyone who has spent any time in the kitchen is probably familiar with the spice turmeric. But, did you know that there are many health benefits of turmeric, as well? I am going to share with you just a few of the things I have learned about this amazing spice.

Turmeric is made from the root of a plant that is similar to ginger. The root is dried and then ground into a fine powder that has been used primarily in India and Asia, as a condiment, a spice and also as a dye, with its deep yellow brown color. The turmeric health benefits primarily come from the active component, curcumin, and can be found in several forms, including capsules, powder, liquid, or tea.

Here are just 10 of the many possible health benefits of turmeric:

1. Due to its natural anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric can be very useful in the treatment of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

2. Turmeric has both antiseptic and antibiotic capabilities, so it can aid in wound care and treatment.

3. It can be useful for the treatment of psoriasis, eczema and other inflammatory skin conditions.

4. Turmeric can be helpful in regards to Alzheimer's disease. It is able to remove amyloid plaque that builds up in the brain, which could help slow the progressions of the disease, and may actually prevent it.

5. It can be helpful in treating and preventing several types of cancer. When teamed up with cauliflower, turmeric can be very powerful in stopping the spread of existing prostate cancer. And when paired up with onions, it may help prevent colon cancer.

6. It is found to be a natural liver detoxifier, which can greatly improve liver function.

7. Curcumin can help lower cholesterol levels by allowing the liver cells to remove more LDL (bad)cholesterol from the body.

8. Turmeric has been used in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicines as an aid to digestion.

9. The anti-inflammatory effects of curcumin can also help prevent heart failure, and help prevent scarring of the heart tissue, while repairing damage that has already occurred.

10. It can help increase your metabolism and aid in weight loss and maintaining a healthy weight.

While health benefits of turmeric are numerous, and it is generally considered safe for most adults, it is not for everyone. If you have gallbladder problems, are pregnant, or are on prescription medications, you should check with your doctor before using.
