Whey protein began its popularity with athletes and body builders, but has continued to grow in popularity as an aid for many health concerns. Whey protein definitely helps to increase lean muscle mass. Without protein, you may spend hours in the gym and never increase your lean muscle mass simply because you cannot grow a muscle without protein. It has also been discovered that whey protein has many other health benefits. It is useful for weight loss, specifically fat loss.
Proteins are essential in everybody's diet. They are known as Building blocks of life. Proteins are complex substances found in many foods and are made up of thousands of small units called amino acids. Proteins from different foods in our diet contain different amino acids. There are 20 amino acids, divided into essential and non-essential amino acids. Essential amino acids must appear in our diet because they cannot be made by the body. The 9 essential amino acids we must eat in our diet include: Histidine, Isoleucine, Leucine, Lysine, Methionine, Phenylalanine, Threonine, Tryptophan and Valine.
Along with fat and carbohydrates, protein is a "macronutrient," meaning that the body needs relatively large amounts of it. Vitamins and minerals, which are needed in only small quantities, are called "micronutrients." But unlike fat and carbohydrates, the body does not store protein, and therefore has no reservoir to draw on when it needs a new supply.
Egg protein consists of all the necessary amino acids, which are required by the body for growth and development. The protein content in eggs is higher than any other kind of animal protein, which is available. It is mainly for this reason that many producers of protein powders often include egg protein like albumin in their products. Egg protein can also be easily digested and absorbed in the body. An important aspect of egg protein is that it is a lactose free source of protein. The high level of amino acids mainly the important sulphur comprising amino acids are important for various hormonal activities in the body.
Whole egg protein can be received in two ways. It can be received from eating whole eggs and also from egg protein powder, which comes as a supplement. However if a person wants to get the advantage of the egg protein but not the fat and the cholesterol then the person can take just the egg white and this a good option. Egg white is not a complete source of protein because it is the yolk along with the egg white, which makes up for the complete source of whole egg protein. The protein content between the egg white and the yolk is equally divided although egg white has one gram of more protein than the yolk. Moreover, the egg white has no fat and cholesterol and this is where it scores over the yolk.
Soy's protein and isoflavones provide antioxidants, reduce artery clogging plaque, improve blood pressure and promote healthy blood vessels, which protects the body from free radical damage, boosts the immune system, and lowers the risk of atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), heart disease, and hypertension (high blood pressure).
