For the proper functioning of our bodies, there are several components that the body need. These are mainly proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals. All these are needed in various capacities for different body types. For instance, teenagers will need more of carbohydrates since their bodies are still active and they use a lot of energy on a daily basis. The young children will need proteins otherwise known as body-building foods.
Vitamins and minerals make people’s body work well and are got from the foods we eat daily. Some of these foods have more of these substances than others. Vitamins come in various categories. These are those that are soluble in fat and those that are soluble in water. Those soluble in fat are A, D, E, and K. these can be stored in the body whereas the water-soluble ones-C and B-complex which are further divided into B6, B12, niacin, riboflavin and foliate.
Minerals are inorganic elements that come from the soil and are water absorbed by plants or eaten by animals. Some of these inorganic elements are needed in large amounts, while others are needed in smaller quantities. Other inorganic elements like chromium, copper, iodine, iron, selenium and zinc are needed in small elements. These are known as trace minerals since they are needed in small amounts on a daily basis.
Each category of vitamins and minerals has the role it plays in the body. An organic element, D is found in milk and helps the bones in our bodies. Vitamin A is found in carrots and is useful for the eyes, C is useful for healing wounds and is found in oranges. B organic elements are found in leafy green vegetables and help the body make energy and protein.
