According to Jerry List, vice-president of Cincinnati-based QC Software, “The WCS evolved for food distribution because the warehouse management system was just trying to do too much and technology just couldn’t keep up. Routing, sorting and processing cartons through a conveyor system are very different than tracking inventory and orders.”
According to manufacturing journalist Thomas R. Cutler in a recent issue DC Velocity, “WCS technology solutions provide information used to ensure efficient operation of scheduling, picking, loading and delivery, thereby reducing costs and increasing customer satisfaction levels. Many WCS systems provide real-time access of a common database, continually apprising the operations staff of the status of order processing, enabling compression of the customer order cycle. Scheduling of staff, loading docks and equipment are optimized by the on-line capabilities and comprehensive reporting offered in most WCS shipping control modules.”
A leading distributor of food and foodservice products uses the QC Enterprise WCS which provides case and pallet routing for the state-of-the-art distribution system. The pallet system consists of 9 aisles of high-rise (100 feet high); double-deep Automated Storage/Retrieval System (AS/RS) cranes interconnected with a pallet handling conveyor system. The WCS automatically routes pallets to the designated aisle for put-away. The WCS also receives other commands from the WMS including stock rotation, pick aisle replenishment, and full pallet shipping transactions. The WCS is responsible for managing the overall activity of the cranes to obtain the highest level of utilization.
The solutions provided by QC Software (www.qcsoftware.com) enables companies to streamline their warehouse operations with the lowest total cost of ownership in the industry ensuring increased corporate profitability. With a commitment to total customer satisfaction QC Software is the obvious choice for warehouse control, order management, and inventory management needs.
