The most common type of radar imaging is the Doppler radar which tracks weather patterns, precipitation, wind currents, tornado formation and trajectory, hurricane formation and ocean currents. The reasons that you might want to use radar imaging while planning your travel might be quite obvious to most but let’s break it down anyway…
Reason’s To Utilize Radar Imagery While Planning Your Vacation
1) You don’t want to get caught in a torrential downpour when the only clothing you’ve brought are shorts, a bathing suit and flip flops
2) When planning a ski trip you want to make sure there is actually snow on the slopes
3) If you choose to go to a tropical climate you might want to make sure it’s not hurricane season
4) If you have children you may want to look at radar imaging to find the least amount of precipitation. Have you ever been confined to the inside of a house or hotel with cooped up kids for days at a time?
5) When planning a sailing trip you may want to make sure that you’re in a part of the world that has strong wind currents
There’s nothing worse than being completely unprepared for things that may come your way. Checking radar images before you leave your house or when on vacation may mean the difference of being caught in a severe thunderstorm without a rain coat and soaked or being perfectly dry and prepared. Radar imaging and accurate digital elevation models can also be a life saver when tornado’s and hurricanes are formed giving the public enough time to get to safety.
While radar imaging was originally used to locate enemy war planes, ships and missiles during World War II, it is mainly used to provide the public with information on weather patterns around the world. Almost anyone can access this information with the widespread use of the internet today. Not only is it an asset to have while planning your vacation, it is technology that continues to save lives.
