The name Sony was created by combining "SONUS," the original Latin for "SONIC," meaning sound, with "SONNY," denoting small size, or a youthful boy. It was chosen for its simple pronunciation that is the same in any language. So why is Sony one of the greatest consumer electronic manufacturers?
Since 1946 Sony has been committed to bringing the world the best in technology. Even though Sony has been around for many years, the original Sony was actually called - Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation or more commonly Totsuko. It was only in January 1958 that the company changed its name to Sony Corporation after taking "SONUS," the original Latin for "SONIC," meaning sound, with "SONNY," denoting small size, or a youthful boy. So, the name Sony was used because of its ease of pronunciation in any language!
Apart from looking at simply the corporate world of Sony, there is much more to Sony that makes it a leader in consumer electronics. This innovation comes with Sony not just simply recreating products, but actually inventing new technology.
In May 1960 - Sony was the first company to create the world's first direct-view portable television. The TV8-301 the world's first non-projection-type portable transistor tele comprised of 23 transistors and 19 diodes, this model was developed based on Sony's extensive experience in radio technology. In an age when television sets were assumed to be living room fixtures, this device opened the door to personal television use. Additionally, the TV8-301 model offered three choices for power input.
Sony made further advancements and in 1962 produced the world's lightest and smallest all transistor television (the TV5-303). The advancements however did not stop there. In 1963 the world's first compact transistor VTR, the PV-100, launched. And in 1965 the world's first home-use open-reel VTR, the CV-2000, launched, paving the way to allow people to record and playback over 1 hour of video.
There are so many new offerings that Sony has brought us, which we did not have before. The Walkman is probably on of the greatest inventions from Sony. Before Sony invented the portable Walkman, there was no practical way of going for a Jog with music playing. Sony also brought us the world's first CD player also, which is something we see included in our PC, our HiFi system, and our car!
Sony is a electronics manufacturer who has gone above what many other electronic companies value, as such Sony has brought us many great inventions which have benefited mankind. Sony continues to innovate and be a world class leader in reliable electronics, with that elegant and ergonomic Sony style.

AOL software conflict with Sony Vaio

I have a 2 yr old Sony Vaio LGV-LS1. The first year everything worked well with AOL. In the last 6 months or more, randomly while I am working with AOL the screen freezes, goes blurry and I get multiple black lines horizonally across the screen. You have to manually shut down the computer and re-start. This can happen up to 20 times a day. Sony has replaced the motherboard and Sub LCD, but it is still doing the same thing. At their recommendation I removed AOL 9.1 and dowloaded AOL 9.0VR, guess what? still the same thing. AOL is blaming Sony, Sony is blaming AOL and I am stuck in the middle. Any suggestions?
