You might have heard the commentators on television talk about one players movement and what a great asset that is and how the top players in the world right now are the best movers on court. Movement and court position is often overlooked at the intermediate level of tennis, where most of the people are focused on how well and hard they hit the ball. This article will explain how a good mover can annihilate someone who hits the ball a whole lot better than them.

One of the most important things you need to do in a tennis match is take time away from your opponent. Most people understand this well enough in regards to what shots they will hit, but not in regards to how they will move from shot to shot. A good mover will know exactly where to go usually before their opponent even hits the ball, they will obviously be very fast and will be very difficult to beat because they can defend so well.

But what most people don't realize is how movement can help when attacking. For example, someone who hits the ball extremely well, but sits on the baseline and only moves from side to side can be beaten by someone who moves well and has a good understanding of the court. This can be done by moving forward and taking the ball early and on the rise. A good player will know all the possible ways in which an opponent will most likely counter their shot, so they can move quickly in anticipation. Once they have their opponent slightly off balance and they know where the next shot is coming, they will have control over the big hitter and be very hard to beat.

So being able to move well allows you to defend better than your opponents and also allows you to take time away and attack them through your speed.
