The Increasing Popularity of Reality Shows

Ever increasing popularity of reality shows across the length and breadth of the world has enabled these shows popping up everywhere on almost all TV channels. With at least one reality show live on every channel right now, the high TRPs of these shows depict these shows have attracted the attention of many.

The main reason behind the success of these shows may be that these shows have real world people and real emotions instead of paid actors sobbing day and night. Real life situations are subjected on the participants to see what they go through and their reaction to a certain event. However, there are times when the participants feel like running away from the restrictions and do what they actually want to do without any camera following their each and every move.

One such reality show broadcasted in Britain namely “The Big Brother” became quite popular in India too due to the racial discrimination issue with Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty on its sets. The leggy bollywood actress was subjected to racist slurs by the other three housemates, which caused outrage in Indian and Britain. But as we all know “Alls well that ends well”, Shilpa won the title and made her way into people’s heart.

Millions of Indians are watching reality shows every day, as majority of them think that these shows help them realize their lives are not all that bad. These reality shows have affected the life of viewers to a great extent. Audiences stick to these shows as these help them escape their own real lives. And obviously these shows are devised with varied themes to allure each and every age group.

Critics charge reality show producers that these are not so real and most of the scenes are manipulated than we think. They say the pressure to gain optimum TV ratings forces them to make the show more interesting.
