First of all, if you are serious about your acting career then you should know that an acting resume must follow a certain format. Acting resumes need to be written according to industry specific guidelines that are unique to the field of acting. For example, most experts suggest that the resume be attached to the headshot (picture) that all actors use to "sell themselves." That way the resume and headshot are seen together.
Format of Acting Resume
- Make sure that the contact information (phone number and e-mail address) are up to date. Make sure you have an answering appliance hooked up to be able to receive messages from the people you want to contact you. If they miss you once, they might not call back.
- Your personal data should be listed at the top of the page. I don’t think it matters much whether it is listed vertically or horizontally, but if you don’t have much space, then I would visualize it would better doing it horizontally.
- Don’t give your age, but your age range. If you are not sure, ask around to people you know. More than your actual age, people in this industry are more interested in the ages you can play.
- Your primary interest in Film acting, Television, Theatre, Industrials, On-Camera Commercials will determine the order in which you list your categories. Your most important ones, or rather, the ones you want to draw the most attention to should be listed first in order.
- New actors don’t always have lots of things to put on their professional actor resume. Going back to what we talked about earlier, training is important.
- Special skills section is an important for lots of different types of acting work. When you are not doing much acting work, it could be a good time to take a class to learn a new skill to add to your resume.
- Never lie! Always tell the truth. Lying will only catch up to you. Just tell the truth. It’s better.
In addition to these important guidelines for creating your resume, there are many resume tips to follow that will help you write a great resume. Some of the more important rules are as follows:
Never write more than two pages.
- Use a format that makes the resume inviting and easy-to-read.
- Think about your accomplishments, roles you’ve played, characters you’ve become.
- Tell the truth.
- Use buzzwords and keywords.
- If possible, tailor your resume for a specific job, not just a specific industry.
- Include computer proficiency levels for almost all jobs.
- Ensure all dates link up and leave no suspicious gaps if you are using a chronological format.
