What if you are an adult? It does not matter if you have a family, a job or even a home of your own. You still can complete your college education. When you have a good supporting wife who wants you to finish university, you should opt for it.
However, the most likely problem you may face is managing time. When you have a family and a job, it is quite hard to get the feeling to study and finish off the unfinished business. It would seem like there is not sufficient time manage work, family and studies.
Family and work by itself can get a little hectic on people, now if education comes into the picture, it can get a bit too much to cope up. The best thing to do is to choose an university close to home.
You should be in a position to do your work, manage family as well as study to a good effect. Consult your boss about the timing of your work and suitably adjust your study time.
It is not easy than said. College is a tough thing to do when you have a family around you. You need to cope with the pressure from all quarters.
You will have to try out different routines and plans to suit your work style, living style and your studies. Family is equally important and hence need to be respected.
List down your activities and also see how you spend the money everyday. Write everything about home, work and study in detail.
A few examples of what you should list out are given below:
At work:
Time spent at home
Other physical activities
Number of hours of work
The time spent on traveling
Leisure activities:
Socializing
Hobbies
Reading
Outdoor exercises
Total hours spent on TV and movies
Everyday life:
Housework
Cooking
Shopping
Personal stuff
Eating
Monitoring children activities
Maintenance of home
While listing out your activities, strike things which you think you are wasting time on. This will help you save some valuable time. Usually, people waste a lot of time watching TV or playing computer games or even sleeping.
If you wish to go to college and do well, you should be in a position to sacrifice a few leisure activities. It might be really hard to do, but still you might have to dish out at the end of the day.
You could use time spent on TV and games on proper studying. This will help you a great deal, over a long run. Instead of deciding them on their day, it would be better if you had a list of activities and scratching things off which you think is unneeded.
When you have a family and job, you will have to learn to do two things simultaneously. Adjustment is the key to success. You somehow have to save some time for studying if you want to pursue studies despite family. Manage your resources well; at the same time see to it that noting goes haywire.
Take help when you desperately need it. For instance, your wife could help you with certain things when you have to study. Trivial activities such as cleaning a car or attending your lawn could be avoided.
A scheduler can help to place things in order. By writing down, you won't forget it that easily. An organizer is available in several stores and in different rates and varieties. Use the electronic version to get the full benefit of it.
Things such as class meeting, library search, dates for assignments and projects can be easily noted in an organizer. Allot adequate time for everything so that you do not get cramped up amidst things.
Being an adult student, it is hard to survive without good time management. Patience becomes a major factor.
