Got Gas? Sometimes, an Electric Pressure Washer Won’t Cut It

Posted: Jun 21, 2009 | Comments: 0 | Views: 64 | Bookmark and Share

There are some applications where an electric power washer just won’t do the job. If that is the case, a gas pressure washer may be just the answer for you. Even though there are powerful electric power washers out there, the gas powered units are a cut above the rest. With a gas powered one, you will be able to blast dirt and grime right down to the metal, with no hope for it returning. How much better? A gas powered washer has the ability to generate over 3,000 PSI of water pressure, more than twice that of the electric version, and enough to strip paint from even the harshest of surfaces. It’s so powerful, you can even use it to cut wood (though this is not recommended). Because of its power, it is often not very applicable to have in the home, and can therefore be found mostly in industrial environments. And it goes without saying that one of the greatest features of the gas powered washer is the fact that you are completely free of the tether of an electrical cord.

The two general types of gas pressure washers are hot water and cold water versions. Hot water washers are normally applicable for very tough applications where particularly hardened grease is common. Two good examples are food processing plants and municipal vehicle repair stations. In addition, hot water cleaning is ideal for cleaning tough stains in a hurry since hot water is more efficient at dissolving dirt and grease than cold water. There are some applications, however, that do not require hot water. A good example of a cold water application is a seat in a sports stadium. The seats only require a little soap and cold water. The additional expense of heating the water is not necessary. In parallel, other examples are cleaning fences, sidewalks, and anything else where the stains are not necessarily caused by intense grease and debris.

Whether you choose a hot or cold water gas pressure washer, be sure you have the right size unit for the job. Check the PSI rating and the attachments to be sure they will fit the job you are trying to accomplish. You can typically find the different types of applications that you can use a washer and its attachments for on the manufacturer’s website. Be sure to check that before starting any job. Some examples of attachments are water brooms with multiple nozzles for flooring, power rotating water driven brushes, and certain style and size spray kits for different size spray areas. The number of attachments are limitless, but getting the right one is the difference between a quick and easy job and a long, laborious one.
