Interior Wall Insulation Provides for a Peaceful Nights Sleep

In all new home construction today, exterior wall insulation is a given, but most people never think about interior wall insulation. While the exterior wall is the first line of defense against the elements, hot and the cold. However, why in the world would you need to insulate the interior walls?

Nobody today would build a home or building without insulating the exterior walls, unless you live somewhere in the tropics where it never gets cold. Even then, they are usually insulated to help the coolness that an air conditioner provides from leaking out.

Interior wall insulation also gives your home added protection when it comes to heat savings. By using it on the inside walls that are not exposed to the elements, you give each room in your house its own little sweater. However, the insulation used in interior walls doesn’t have to have the same ‘R’ value as exterior insulation. ‘R’ value is the measure of the insulating properties of a specific insulation. The higher the ‘R’ value, the higher its insulating qualities.

What most people use is a product called acoustic insulation. This is basically sound proofing insulation, that helps reduce the noises from adjoining rooms. It is most commonly used in a lot of multi unit dwelling, or rental apartments. Because there are so many people living on top, and beside each other, there is a great need to reduce the sound from one unit to another.

Interior wall insulation is pretty similar to regular exterior wall insulation. In fact some people use their left over to do the floors of their home. This helps to sound proof the bottom floor from the foot steps that are easily heard.

While interior wall insulation is not required, and won’t make a tremendous impact on your energy bills, it will help you sleep better at night. Now you won’t have to hear the washing machine running because the laundry room is right below. Alternatively, hear the kids TV blearing in the next room.

One of the best places to use this interior wall sound proofing insulation is in the bathroom, and especially around the tub and shower. If you ever had a bedroom that right next to a bathroom, you’ll know how loud the sound of running water can be.

You’ll be able to find interior wall insulation, or acoustic insulation at your local building supply store, or your local hardware store. Shop around a little as prices can vary.
