2008 Leeds Tourism Guide

Widely known as the capital of the north, Leeds is a playful location with a sizeable population of nearly 450 000. As well as it's many residents; Leeds also attracts many business travellers & tourists.

Leeds is a popular city because of it's many places of interest, playful night life & exciting opportunities for shopping. Just take a look at the guide below and you’ll see some of the fantastic things that Leeds has to offer.

Stunning Architecture

Leeds has some breathtaking buildings, including the gorgeous Corn Exchange , which was designed by Brodrick in 1864. This beautiful structure is now an alternative shopping mall & it's grade I listed. As well as its gorgeous structures, Leeds also has some beautiful greenery & superb attractions & historical sites.

World-Class Shopping Opportunities

If you would like to shop 'til you drop, Leeds is the ideal place to do it. The city has some exciting shops to suit any pocket such as high-end shops like Harvey Nichols and Louis Vuitton in the Victoria Quarter.

In addition to these beautiful boutique stores, you'll discover plenty of high-street shops in the city's Merrion centre. Fans of alternative fashion will also locate some real bargains in the Corn Exchange, which houses shops such as Grin.

Some Things to Do

If you would rather spend your time in Leeds doing more cultured pursuits, you'll be happy to know that the city has nine exciting museums & galleries. These include the Leeds City Museum & the wonderful Leeds City Art Gallery, so you are sure to find something to entertain you.

If fast-paced city life gets too much, you'll be happy to know that Leeds has some pretty green spaces & gorgeous parks, including the award-winning Mandela gardens. These pretty gardens were constructed at a cost of £12 million to commemorate the millennium & were jointly funded by Leeds city council & the Millennium Commission. The gardens were awarded a medal at the 2004 Chelsea Flower Show.

Lively Nightlife

Leeds has wonderful nightlife, which begs to be tried out. Whether you would rather have a cosy drink in one of the city's quaint public houses or a glass of wine at one of Leeds' VIP bars, you will have a fabulous evening here.

After you have had your drink, why not hit the clubs? Leeds has some wonderful clubs that cater to every musical style, which means that you will be spoiled for choice.

Leeds also has many venues to watch live music, including the Cockpit. These venues cater mainly to rock music & attract local & touring bands.
